Health Care Assistant

Are you a compassionate and caring person? Do you want to help others? If you want to establish a career that incorporates these qualities, you should enroll in the Health Care Assistant program at Vancouver Career College. In the Resident Care Attendant program, you will study anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. You will learn about chronic medical conditions, interpersonal relations and communications, as well as human growth and development. You will also gain a solid foundation in specific areas such as Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia, death and dying, and patient support networks. You will receive certification in First Aid, CPR, BC FoodSafe, and WHMIS training. In addition, you will complete three-weeks of clinical training in intermediate care and four-weeks of clinical training in an extended care facility to gain hands-on experience in the field. As a graduate of the Health Care Assistant program, you will be prepared to care for clients with special needs and to function collaboratively as members of a multidisciplinary health care team. You will be qualified for a range of positions, including Long-Term Care Aide (geriatric), Home Healthcare Worker, Residential Care Attendant or Nursing Aid.
