The U.S. government has been committed to assisting single moms go back to school. The program, or the grant, is called ‘Moms Return to School’. Many moms don’t know that these programs exist and do not know how beneficial these programs can be for them. Even in the midst of our tragic economy, grants such as these are available to assist people wanting to better themselves by completing their degrees. Applying for the grant is not as complicated as you would assume. The competition may be a bit harsh but the application process is not arduous. First and foremost, you need to search for an online college or online program that is fit for you. This can be done directly on our website- select your interest, class type, and school type, and press submit. Then you will be presented with schools that are applicable to you. Fill out your information for those schools and they will contact you directly. From this point, you will have a variety of schools to choose from and you should research and choose wisely. After this, you must fill out a FAFSA form and submit it by its deadline date which is June 30, 2011 for school year of 2010-2011, and there are correction dates for web forms so be sure you are aware if you need to make changes. There are also Federal Pell Grants, which was the first point Obama addressed when he became president. He was able to increase the amount of grants to be received by low income students. It went up $1,050, as the total is now $5,100 and he plans to raise it more in the near future. This grant is applicable for moms who’s status is in the lower income bracket. There are also tax benefits for going back to school working towards an online degree. The American Opportunity Tax Credit program, you get your first $4000 of education fees as a tax credit. However, this full credit is available for those who are in an income bracket of $80,000 or less or $160,000 or less for married couples who are filing a joint return. There are many other grant and scholarship programs available for moms specifically. Check out the website for Project Working Mom, which is a $5 million dollar scholarship fund for working parents who are looking to go back to school. Your options are endless and with just a bit of research, your tuition can be half of what you have planned, making returning to school a better experience for you and your family.
